Our Story

John Adkins (founder) was born and raised in Southern California. Due to his family’s beekeeping hobby, he grew up around bees. Back then beekeepers use to line up to collect bees on bushes and trees. Things are a little different now.

To help fund his education in college, John established Adkins Bees. Adkins has been in business now since 1999. Adkins keeps bees not for profit, provides some free pollination services in county boundaries, and provides bee removal service for feral and European honeybee colonies. Adkins makes available visits to the schools for kindergarten though six grade.

Adkins bees have a undeviating focus on customer service and quality service, and maintains these standards while offering very competitive prices in the bee industry.

Adkins is a pioneer in bee removal work, has an excellent reputation in the field, and is referred by many beekeepers, pest control companies, and nonprofit organizations. Adkins is licensed, bonded, insured; is a member of the County Farm Bureau, and is a member of the Better Business Bureau. Adkins provides free inspections to both business and residential sites specializing in solutions for re-occurring bee problems.

Since the 1980′s & 90′s, there have been two harsh changes in the beekeeping industry in southern California, and the west causing many beekeepers to abandon beekeeping.

First, diseases that were never around before began plaguing the common honeybee. Second, bees have become much more aggressive due to the outbreak of killer bees which crossed over from South America and have now crossbred, creating a hybrid bee or Africanized bee. These bees stretch from Southern California to Texas and more recently into most of Florida. Adkins spends time working together with companies in these States trying to minimize the harm of feral bees. Adkins still provides live bee removal to none feral bee hives.

Regarding Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) The bees’ role is very important in our ecosystem. ONE-THIRD of our daily diet comes from crops pollinated by honey bees; without bees certain plants would not be able to reproduce and would thus become extinct. In turn, this would lead to the disappearance of certain animal species. Though bees are essential to our ecosystem, they can cause harm in the wrong places, and at times can be financially costly when colonizing in structural voids of homes and businesses.
